Ballet Conditioning

Ballet Conditioning is an optional additional training class for students studying Classical Ballet at SSD.

Classes run for half an hour, and are designed to train the dancers technique with exercises to help build on strength in the core, upper back, legs and feet. They help to adapt posture and alignment and work the hip flexes to improve turnout and flexibility whilst also improving balance and control. Classes follow the Australian PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) syllabus.

Ballet Conditioning is paramount to a dancers technical training. Students who wish to attend full time vocational training will need to study these classes in order to develop to the highest standards required.

Level 1

The Level 1 Class starts with basic PBT exercises, and is available to students aged 6 and above studying at the Primary and Grade 1 levels. The class run #s between these two classes for ease of accessibility.

Level 2

The Level 2 class includes additional exercises plus developments of the exercises from Level 1, aiming to build further on strength and flexibility. This class is open to students studying Ballet Grades 2 and 3.

Level 3

The level of training is much more intense and thus this becomes a 45 minute session, many of these exercises are also used at professional training establishments as they focus on the key technical details required at this level. This class is open to students studying Ballet grades 4 and 5.

In order to study these classes students will be required to purchase a number of specialist items, for their level. These items are listed under the Uniform section of the info page. Any items NOT listed will be supplied by the dance school. All items will be taken through the levels, and added to as they progress.
