Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet is the epitome of the Dance World, an art form in itself. It is the most recognised form of dance around the globe and competition is big. SSD have great ambitions and a huge passion for teaching Ballet. The school has an exceptional pass rate among Ballet examinations, and have a continued uptake of students qualifying and participating at the Imperial Classical Ballet Awards hosted by the ISTD.

We run a number of classes for students aged 3yrs and up which follow the NATD Class exam at Pre Primary level and the ISTD dance syllabi for those working at Primary level and above. All examinations from Grade 1 upwards, are recognised by Ofqual and the DofE.

SSD also run a selection of additional training classes for students including Ballet Conditioning which enables dancers to build on strength with a series of specially adapted exercises to train and develop every area of the body for the ballet class. We also run additional Pointe Work classes for students working at the higher levels, Pointework is a more advanced step in the dancers training, due to the nurture of the pointe classes and the strength needed, students will only progress to pointe classes when their teacher feels they are both physically and mentally ready for the challenge.

We currently offer Classical Ballet classes at entry level for students of pre-school age and above, with an option to take the Class Exam and Primary Examinations.

Students working at Level 1 (Grades 1-3) and Level 2 (Grades 4-5) receive nationally recognised qualifications with the completion of each examination they take, and Students working at the Vocational level 3 (Grade 6+) achieve additional UCAS points on completion of the examinations in line with the National Qualifications Framework.
