Jazz Dance

Jazz classes are ever popular at SSD, We run them non syllabus to allow students an opportunity in their dance schedule to just dance, without the pressure of exams and results. We run these classes at 3 levels, from Pre Senior through to Advanced.

Classes are fast paced, students learn a series of technical elements including kicks, turns, leaps and combinations. The classes help to build on strength, flexibility and stamina as well as engaging our dancers with the popular jazz styles including, Hip hop, Street, Commercial and Lyrical. Jazz brings a lot of differing styles to the dancer as well as performativity and characterisation. Classes are structured to include an intense workout style warm up, conditioning exercises, combinations, technical elements and finished off with a routine which we teach over the entire term.

Although the starting level is Pre-Senior, we do ask that students are at least 8 years of age before starting these classes and ideally studying Modern Theatre Dance or Street

Pre Senior

For Students studying Grades 1 and 2 Modern. This class focuses on style, body line and flexibility with basic kicks, and travelling combinations, basic jazz pirouette training and a new routine each half term.

A slightly more intense class for students studying Grade 3 and 4 Modern. Classes focus on trickier combinations, side leaps, layouts and the development of jazz pirouettes. There are also fast paced routines to learn each half term.
